Can having or losing a job affect your health and fitness program?

In today’s economy, having or losing a job can affect your mental and physical health.  Most job stress comes from having too much or not enough work; tight deadlines; demanding supervisors; inability for promotion; inability to take leave; poor work environment; low morale among employees; and lack of benefits such as health care.  People who have lost a job have the stress of finding employment; trying to pay bills; providing groceries for the family; preventing the lost of your home and working to keep the family from seperating due to frustration, arguments and hopelessness. The job market is slowly improving and many people are taking whatever employment available regardless of the decrease in income or skill level.  According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, unemployment rates were higher in September 2009 than the previous year in 371 of the 372 metropolitan areas.  These issues can lead to depression, heart disease and hypertension.  When people are depress, they lack the motivation to exercise and they concentrate less on a nutritional diet.

Here are a few suggestions that can help overcome these obstacles:

1.  Start to look for opportunities in your current situation (Remember: "For every cloud, there is a silverlining" ).

2.   Take the time to re-evaluate your current state of employment.  Try to find the positive things that can come from it, such as, going back to school; starting your own business; or working at something totally new and different.

3.  Always know that every situation is temporary.  As TD Jakes says, " God anoints you for your trouble".  Keep the faith and stay in prayer. According King James version of the bible Acts 2:21, And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
